Norway will host the EU eHealth conference 2005

The Norwegian Ministry of Health has been selected as host for the next EU eHealth Conference. It will follow successful events in Brussels in 2003 and Cork in 2004. The third EU eHealth conference, which is scheduled to take place in Tromsø, Norway 23-24 May 2005, is expected to attract 400-500 ministers, officials and experts; as well as NGO and business representatives from EU member states, EFTA-states, EU applicants and the European Commission.

The Conference will be organised in close co-operation with the Luxembourg Presidency of the EU and the European Commission. Main objective of the Conference will be to assess progress and carry forward the political priorities set out in Brussels and Cork. The Conference takes as its point of departure the eHealth Action plan, adopted in June 2004, and the 2005 Work Plan on Public Health. Main themes at the Conference will be:

· Facilitating mobility within and between countries – meeting the challenges of increased mobility
· Supporting more responsive health services and creating greater public awareness through better health information
· Improving access to and quality of care, patient safety, and productivity
· Reviewing the launch, the intermediate results, and the upcoming year’s activities of the eHealth Action Plan
