Norwegian PM on refugees: – Cooperation is cruical

Last updated: 22.09.2016 // Norwegian Prime Minister, Erna Solberg, spoke at Barack Obamas high-level “Leaders’ Summit on Refugees” in New York on 20th of September, encouraging world leaders to work together to solve the refugee issue.

The event took place during the United Nations General Assembly, where the refugee situation is among the key topics discussed.

– International cooperation is crucial to prevent migration, to secure correct and dignified treatment of refugees and migrants, and to arrange and send back people without residence permit or need of protection, she said to a crowd made up of several world leaders.

Norway is one of the biggest financial aid contributors to the refugee crisis in Syria and has pledged 2,4 billion kroner (about 260 million Euros) for 2016 alone.

PM Solberg has previously stated that at least 15 per cent of the Norwegian contribution will be earmarked for education (about 350 million kroner or 38 million Euros). This number could be increased in the future.
