Norway’s Ambassador to the EU nominated to ESA College

Last updated: 22/03/2011 // Ambassador at Norway’s Mission to the EU Oda Helen Sletnes has been nominated as the new Norwegian member of the College of the EFTA Surveillance Authority, ESA. She will be succeeding Per Sanderud, who has been a member since August 2007.

“ESA plays a very important role in connection with Norway’s participation in the internal market. Norway attaches great importance to the work done by the Authority. Ambassador Oda Sletnes is one of our most experienced EU diplomats and is a good choice for this key position,” said Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.

The EFTA Surveillance Authority is responsible for ensuring that Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein fulfil their obligations under the EEA Agreement.  Its role corresponds with that played by the European Commission vis-à-vis the EU member states. ESA is headed by a College consisting of three members, one from each of the three EFTA states in the European Economic Area.

Oda Helen Sletnes has served as Ambassador at Norway’s Mission to the EU in Brussels since January 2006. She has held a number of senior positions in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
