Meeting on the Northern Dimension hosted by Jonas Gahr Støre

26/10/2010 // The second Ministerial Meeting of the Northern Dimension is being hosted by Norway’s Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Støre in Oslo on the 2nd of November. Partnerships in North West Russia, the Barents and Baltic Sea regions and the Arctic are on the agenda.

This ministerial meeting is a cooperation between the EU, Iceland, Russia and Norway. The meeting will focus on cross border cooperation. There are already existing partnerships on environment and health, and on the meeting in Oslo one wishes to form new partnerships on transportation, logistics and culture as well.

The foreign ministers from the Russian Federation, Sweden, Finland, Iceland and Estonia will participate, as well as State Secretaries from Poland, Lithuania and Denmark. Participation from the EU is to be announced.

The first Ministerial meeting was held in St. Petersburg two years ago. Jonas Gahr Støre emphasizes how the Northern Dimension is a top priority in Norway’s foreign policy – and how regional cooperation is vital in this respect.

The conference takes place in Oslo City Hall, and media are invited to cover the meeting.
