Norway opens EU research liaison office in Brussels

In a move to strengthen Norwegian participation in the EU framework programme and to increase its services to researchers and companies, the Research Council of Norway has set up a Brussels branch.

15/02/2006 :: The main task will be to ensure a closer dialogue between The European Commission and the Norwegian research community. This will entail assistance to norwegian researchers making use of the possibilities within the EU-system. Norway will thus join the Informal Group of RTD Liaison Offices (IGLO) in Brussels for EU R&D, already counting 17 members from just as many countries.

The office will be headed by Ms Marit Risberg Ellekjær, formerly Department Director at the Norwegian Food Research Institute (Matforsk). Strategically placed in Rue de Thrône 98 near the EU institutions, the liaison office will share address with several of its sister organizations (Sweden, Switzerland, Germany and Poland).

Details on the IGLO network, including the Norwegian office, can be found at www.iglortd.org.
