Consolidated Directive on the recognition of professional qualifications adopted

Under the EEA Agreement Norway will implement the recently adopted Directive on the recognition of professional qualifications. The directive aims to simplify the process behind the free movement of persons by merging 15 directives into one.

15/02/2006 :: After several years of consultation and two rounds in the Parliament, the Directive was adopted on 6 June, and includes the field of regulated professionals with three years of higher education or three years of professional training.

The aim behind the new Directive is to simplify the rules and increase the flexibility of procedures, in order to liberalise the process behind the free movement of persons across Member States.

The new Directive introduces new requirements for Member States, affecting areas such as the facilitation of temporary and occasional provision of services.

Norway has contributed to the preparatory process of the Directive by participating in a working group.

Under the EEA Agreement Norway will have to implement the Directive by 1 January 2007.
