Norwegian State Secretary promotes active EU policy on Communication

Steinulf Tungesvik, State Secretary in the Ministry of Transport and Communications, is currently (8 to 9 June) in Luxembourg to attend a Nordic meeting in the margins of the Transport, Telecommunications and Energy Council meeting on 9 June.

08/06/2006 :: Among the issues on the agenda are aviation, roads, railways and maritime transport.

In relation to this meeting the State Secretary will on behalf of the Norwegian Government sign an agreement on the European Common Aviation Area. This agreement is a result of the expansion of the Internal Market within the field of aviation to include Bulgaria, Romania and the West-Balkan countries. Norway has since 1993 been included in this part of the Internal Market.

Furthermore, Mr. Tungesvik will sign a declaration of intention regarding Norwegian participation in the EU project “eCall”. This project aims at developing a system where vehicles automatically alert an emergency centre in case of an accident.
