Lithuania signs Memorandum of Understanding

EUR 40.257 million will be granted to Lithuania after the signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Norway on April 14. This is the sixth MoU signed by the Norwegian Financial Mechanism.

15/02/2006 :: The MoU, signed in Oslo by Norwegian Deputy Foreign Minister Kim Traavik and the Lithuanian Minister of Finance Algirdas Butkevičius, represents the sixth of a total of ten MoU’s that will be signed this year under the Norwegian Financial Mechanism.

The grant will be administered by the Lithuanian Ministry of Finance and used for projects focusing on cultural heritage, education and training, health care, the improvement of children’s foster homes and the fight against international crime.

Lithuania will sign another MoU under the EEA Financial Mechanism at a later date, whose grant will centre on projects in the areas such as the environment, human resources and local governmental capacity building.

In November last year 80 representatives from both countries participated in a joint seminar on the Financial Mechanisms. The MoU will provide the basis for future cooperation between Norway and Lithuania and the different Lithuanian and Norwegian sectors.
