Minister Hareide to participate in Informal Ministerial Meeting in London

The Norwegian Minister of the Environment, Knut Arild Hareide, will attend the Informal Environment and Agriculture Council meeting in London on 11th September. The Ministers will discuss matters concerning climate change and agriculture.

15/02/2006 :: EU Ministers of the Environment and Agriculture will come together on 11th September for a joint meeting. Minister Hareide has also been invited to particiapate, due to Norway’s participation in the European Economic Area  (EEA). 

The theme of the joint meeting will be the relationship between climate change and agriculture. The meeting will focus on the significant challenges and opportunities that climate change presents to European agriculture. Leading international experts in their field will identify the key impacts and vulnerabilities of agriculture to climate change, as well as how agriculture and land management can adapt to the impact of climate change in Europe. The meeting will also examine agriculture’s role in reducing greenhouse emissions, for instance through changed management practices, the production of alternative fuels or carbon sequestration.
