Norway takes part in EU’s Monitoring Mission in Aceh, Indonesia

A peace agreement between the Government of Indonesia (GoI) and the Free Aceh Movement (GAM) was signed 15 August. To monitor the implementation of the commitments made by the two parties the EU together with five ASEAN countries, Norway and Switzerland launched a Monitoring Mission in Aceh (AMM), Indonesia 15 September.

15/02/2006 :: Around 220 personnel participate in the Mission which will cover a period of six months (till 15 March 2006). In addition to monitoring the Mission will also assist with the decommissioning of weapons.

The Norwegian Refugee Council has been coordinating the recruitment of the Norwegian personnel.

Norway will contribute with five monitors:
Magne Sveen, operational staff, HQ
Thale Berg Husby, reporting and analysis officer, HQ
Berit Dahle, field officer
Tore Winther, field officer
Bror Gevalt, Decommissioning Team Leader
