Norway and the Commission join forces for conference on implementation of funds

On 13 June the Commissioner for Regional Policy Danuta Hübner and Deputy Foreign Minister Kim Traavik will open a conference hosted by Norway in cooperation with the Commission, on the topic of the EEA and Norwegian financial mechanisms.

12/04/2005 :: Around 150 representatives will meet in Brussels to discuss opportunities and challenges facing the implementation of the financial mechanisms, in view of EU cohesion policy lessons.

From 2004-2009 alltogether 1.2 billion euros will be provided through the EEA and Norwegian financial mechanisms, and distributed on the basis of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that EEA EFTA states have signed with the 13 beneficiary countries.

“The focus of the seminar will be on project generation in the 13 beneficiary states and provide a good meeting ground for all actors involved. It is a great opportunity to come together and exchange ideas and experiences,” says the Norwegian EU Ambassador Bjørn T. Grydeland.

“It will also lay the basis for coordination between the our financial mechanisms and the EU regional and structural funds,” Ambassador Grydeland adds.

Human resources, the environment, cultural heritage, and the European Neighbourhood Policy will be some of the issues at the heart of the discussion.

The 150 participating representatives are from Norway and fellow EEA EFTA members Iceland and Liechtenstein, the EU Commission, the 13 beneficiary states, along with relevant actors from other sectors.
