Norwegian Ministry of Labour and Social inclusion to meet EU’s Employment Committee

Director General Rune Solberg from the Ministry of Labour and Social Inclusion will head a Norwegian delegation in a joint meeting with the EU Employment Committee (EMCO), taking place in Brussels on 27 April.

26/04/2006 :: The Norwegian Ministry will present their experiences on the theme “Productivity and people at the margins of the labour market”, as well as giving an overview of Norway’s current labour market situation.

Norway is not a member of EMCO, as the Committee is under the Council structure. Nevertheless, special arrangements have been found to include the EEA EFTA States on selected topics once a year. EMCO plays an important role in shaping employment polices at EU level, notably in forging the European Employment Strategy.

EMCO will further discuss the Commission’s proposal on new employment guidelines, a lifecycle approach to work in the context of demographic change and the Lisbon Strategy after the joint meeting with Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein. The committee is chaired by Mr Maarten Camps from The Netherlands.
