EU research prizes to Norwegians

The 2005 winners of the EU Descartes Prizes for Research and Science Communications were announced on 2 December. Amongst the laureates were two researchers from Bergen.

07/12/2005 :: The prestigeous one million euro Descartes Research Prize 2005 was shared by five outstanding European research projects in genetics, climate change, astronomy, social sciences and disease management. Two of these involved strong participation from Norwegian institutions and researchers: Professor Ola M. Johannessen at the Nansen Environmental and Remote Sensing Center (NERSC) has co-ordinated the project Climate and Environmental Change in the Artic, while Director Bjørn Henrichsen at the Norwegian Social Science Data Services (NSD) is partner in the European Social Survey project. EU Commissioner for Science and Research, Janez Potocnik, handed out the prized at the award ceremony in Royal Society in London.
