Nordic state of readiness rehearsal

Last week a large nordic state of readiness rehearsal was set in motion. The overall objective of the simulation exercise was to test Nordic contingency plans for the control of FMD and furthermore to enhance and coordinate inter-Nordic co-operation during disease outbreaks.

15/02/2006 :: The theme of the rehearsal, called “Phest”,  was outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD). Both the Norwegian Food Safety Authority, The Norwegian National Veterinary Institute and the Ministry of Agriculture and Food participated. The Nordic Council supported the rehearsal. The motivation was to ensure an efficient state of readiness in order to quickly oppose the disease and reduse the consequences of an outbreak. During the exercise, simulated FMD suspicious and simulated FMD outbreaks occured in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden.
