Norwegian Government Delegation to Brussels

23/07/2010 // Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg and six members of the Norwegian Government visited Brussels this week, and met both with the Commission and some MEPs. Questions on climate- and energy , the northern areas, the international financial crisis and the cooperation with Russia were on the agenda.

The Brussels visit started Wednesday 12 November with a meeting between Stoltenberg and Barroso, before a lunch together with the other Norwegian Ministers and the Commissioners Almunia, Dimas, Ferrero-Waldner and Piebalgs. The Ministers had several other meetings after lunch.

Wednesday, November 12
For Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, the Brussels visit started at NATO, where he met Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer. Then, he met Javier Solana, the High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy. After lunch, meetings with the Commissioner Benita Ferrero-Waldner, MEP Diana Wallis and the Director og the CEPS, Daniel Gros, followed.

Minister of Petroleum- and Energy Terje Riis-Johansen also met Ferrero-Waldner, and in the afternoon MEP Chris Davies in the Parliament and Commissioner Neelie Kroes. Riis-Johansen and Støre participated in a dinner with Energy Commissioner Andris Piebalgs, in the residence of the Norwegian Ambassador to the EU.

Minister of Fisheries and Coastal Affairs, Helga Pedersen, met the Commissioner for Fisheries & Maritime Affairs, Joe Borg, and Commissioner for Environment, Stavros Dimas. Minister of the Environment and International Development, Erik Solheim, met MEP Anders Wijkman before lunch. Minister of Finance, Kristin Halvorsen, met the Commissioner for Economic & Financial Affairs, Joaquin Almunia, during lunch.

Thursday, November 13
For Foreign Minister Støre Thursday began with a breakfast meeting with Norwegian incumbents in Brussels. A meeting in the EEA Council, the highest body of the EEA agreement, was held at 11h, and a political dialogue followed at 12h30.

Minister of Transport and Communications, Liv Signe Navarsete, met with Commissioner Tajani at 10h, and Commissioner Reding at 11h.
